Web Development Aesthetics

Updated: May 21

Web development is so much more than just coding, so much more than cybersecurity, and so much more than pretty images. Web development is about providing information or services to a target audience, and it's how you portray that information or services that brings in the customers or clients. What you will read throughout this post is a simple guideline of tips and tricks that I have picked up throughout my schooling and personal projects.

Rule 1: NO CLUTTER

There is nothing more distracting to a site visitor than a homepage that is clutter with advertisements, pictures, or text. The possibility of a web developer losing a potential client is incredibly large if the site they are visiting is too overwhelming.

Rule 2: Color Balance

Color balance is extremely important if you want your site to have a welcoming feel and appearance, and it can be done in many more ways than simply using black and white.

Primary Colors: Red, Yellow, and Blue

Secondary Colors: Orange, Green, and Violet

Tertiary Colors: Red-Orange, Yellow-Orange, Yellow-Green, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet, and Red-Violet

Color balancing is very much a delicate act, because if the wrong group of colors is mixed together, the results will likely look disastrous.

Complementary color combinations are the ones that sit on opposite sides of the color wheel from one another.

Analogous color combinations are every two to five colors that sit beside each other on the color wheel.

Triadic color combinations are spaced evenly throughout the color wheel and tend to be more rich or vibrant in color.

Tetradic color combinations are made of four colors that sit equidistant from each other on the color wheel, forming a square or rectangle.
